Final Beauty Shot

This is the final shot for my beauty look. I am pleased with this look, although I feel the hair could have been styled slightly better. I am extremely keen on the makeup application and technique though. I feel that it is extremely effective.

Final Fantasy Shot

This is my final shot for my Fantasy look. I am so pleased with it!!
I love the contrast between the face and the chest and the texture in the hair, I am really really pleased with this look!

Beauty Look & Testing

The next step in this project was the beauty look. I still wanted to include the same colours that I had in nthe previous looks, but I needed the look to be toned down slightly, more adaptable for a classic beauty shot. I instantly fell in love with the pale skin tone I applied to the face. I waxed out the eyebrows and covered over them with a feathering technique of black Supra-Colour. Black was applied to the lips, the hair was kept loose and wet and left to trail over the face and the eyes were hazed in a deep red.

Fantasy Face Plan & Testing.

After realizing that my initial face plan for the Fantasy shot of my Carnal Rapture campaign was not dissimilar from a look that I had created in the past, I thought of ways to change and improve the look.

Keeping the hair the same, I added black to the face, mixed with petroleum jelly to create a shiny effect. I didn't want the makeup to be applied to thickly, I wanted there to be a rough and expressive element to the look, maybe even seeing bare skin through the makeup in some places. I felt that this expressive technique would interest the viewer and it was also inspiration I took from looking at the painting by Expressive artist Chaim Soutine.

I am extremely pleased with the changes and alterations I have made to this look and I feel it exudes sensual and animalistic qualities, something which was a focal point for me when creating the looks.

Initial Face Plan & Testing.

This is my initial face plan for 'Carnal Rapture'. I felt that red was both a sensual and carnal colour. I felt that the attention for the Fantasy shot should be on the skin, not on the hair and that is why I have kept the hair simple, brushed through with petroleum jelly to give a waxy effect. Across the forehead, down the nose and across the collar bones, I have stippled petroleum jelly to give a shiny and luxurious feel to the look.

I am fond of this look, but it does remind me of one that I created in a previous assignment, I have included below a shot from the test shoot I carried out with this look. I shall not be using this for my final submission but I really like the effect the petroleum jelly has given on the skin.

Moodboard

This is the moodboard I have created around my two words 'Carnal Rapture' I have included a twisted religious feel couples with animalistic poses and dark inverted colours.

I found most of these pictures on a site called www.twistedlamb.com This is an extremely inspiring website which is effectively like a tumblr page but there is much more to it. The dark, repressive atmosphere that the pictures create and the obscurity of some of the art work is absolutley fantastic.

The next step in the project will be for me to create some face plans and test out the looks that I create.

Chaim Soutine

When thinking of the colour palette that I would use for my two Illamasqua looks, I tried to think of artists that could possibly be of help. I thought about my two words, 'Carnal Rapture' and what they meant to me.

The word 'carnal' instantly made me think of blood reds for passion and sacrifice and the animalistic qualities of the word. Rapture made me think of sin, dark experiences and therefore dark colours such as black and navy.

I then remembered a Fine Artist, Chaim Soutine, who encompassed that entire colour palette. I have included some of his pieces below to give you an idea of what I mean. I like the use of dark colours against the splashes of white and yellow. The expressive nature of the paintings are also exciting and appealing and something which I plan on practicing when creating final face plans.

The bottom piece is my personal favorite  As mentioned before, I am going to take influence from the colour palette of these Soutine pieces. The next step toward my assignment will be to create a mood board and explore more inspirational fashion photography in order to begin testing and face plans.
